Mathematic Classes

Grade 9 IGCSE vs CBSE Mathematics

IGCSE Mathematics (Grade 9)

The Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics curriculum focuses on building strong conceptual understanding rather than rote memorization. Topics include algebra, geometry, coordinate geometry, statistics, probability, and number theory. Students are encouraged to develop problem-solving skills, logical reasoning, and mathematical communication. The assessment style often blends structured questions with real-life applications, preparing learners for higher-level studies and international benchmarks.

CBSE Mathematics (Grade 9)

The CBSE Grade 9 Mathematics syllabus is aligned with the NCERT curriculum, emphasizing foundational concepts and their practical use. Key topics include algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, probability, and mensuration. The approach is systematic, with step-by-step problem solving and regular practice exercises. CBSE also integrates real-world examples to strengthen applied mathematics skills, while preparing students for Grade 10 board examinations.

Key Difference

IGCSE tends to be more application-oriented and globally benchmarked, encouraging analytical thinking, while CBSE is more structured and exam-focused, ensuring mastery of fundamentals through consistent practice.your text here...

Understanding NUMBER SYSTEMS

A number base (or radix) is the number of unique digits used to represent numbers.

Examples

Base Name Digits Used

Base 2 Binary 0,1

Base 8 Octal 0–7

Base 10 Decimal 0–9

Base 16 Hexadecimal 0–9, A, B, C, D, E, F

In hexadecimal:

  • A = 10

  • B = 11

  • C = 12

  • D = 13

  • E = 14

  • F = 15

PLACE VALUE IN DIFFERENT BASES

Just as decimal uses powers of 10, every number base use powers of its base.

Base 10 Example: 352
= (3 × 10²) + (5 × 10¹) + (2 × 10⁰)

= 300 + 50 + 2

= 352

Base 2 Example: 1011

= (1 × 2³) + (0 × 2²) + (1 × 2¹) + (1 × 2⁰)

= 8 + 0 + 2 + 1

= 11₁₀

Base 8 Example: 237

= (2 × 8²) + (3 × 8¹) + (7 × 8⁰)

= 128 + 24 + 7

= 159₁₀...
